Finally got around to painting that SM Terminator Commander. Here he is with Storm Bolter and Power Fist:
The torso, cape and legs are from the pewter Marneus Calgar. The shoulders are from the plastic Dreadnought sprue (leg plates). The seals, head and censors on his back are from the DA Ravenwing and DA Veterans sprues. Fun latin lesson: His shoulderplate says "Non Venia" which roughly translates to "unforgiven."
You knew he was magnetized, don't be coy about it ;)
The power weapon effect above was basecoated in Boltgun Metal. Cover with a watered down Enchanted Blue. Make sure it's very diluted... you want some metal to shine through. Draw your energy waves with Ice Blue. You want some randonimity, but cheat a little and have them hug edges and the center line. Follow Ice Blue with Skull White. Try to do this last step while the Ice Blue is still wet.
Same effect for the Lightning Claws.
Fun Latin lesson Part 2: "Fides" translates as "Faith." That's right: Faith is his shield. Yes I went there.
Nothing says "I love you" like dual-Thunder-Hammers. :)
Also, since I finished him with some leftover time tonight, I painted up my first Guardsman:
I'm not a terrible fan of the green on khaki colour scheme that's typical to Cadia, so I opted to change it up a bit. Also, I don't want any two of my armies to share color schemes, and the Dark Angels called the green and bone first.
I rather like the Brown on Khaki, I think it looks great. What do you guys think of it? The officers, of course, will get some more flair with some red thrown in their scheme...
God!, You are good.
ReplyDeleteThey are superb.
John
Fidelis, oh how it just screams Marine! If only you had "Semper" etched on somewhere as well.
ReplyDeleteNicely painted btw. Loved the shoulder pad idea.
Wow! Those power weapon effects look amazing! I might have to copy that fine technique ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso it is nice to see a Space Marine with hair for a change, I can't stand all those bald heads any more...
Awesome job mate! Can I ask how you did the base?
ReplyDeleteLove the models mate! Especially the Deathwing Termy! The freehand is brilliant, especially the sword and wing on the back of the cape. Great work as usual Darksol
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others, the termy is reasonably awesome! The IG guy looks pretty sharp too though.
ReplyDeleteLove 'em both! That guardsman scheme looks superb!
ReplyDeleteWell, that's really good stuff. The marine makes a good conversion work, and the paintjob is also very nice. But I must take my hat off with the colour scheme of the cadian guy. Which brown did you use for the armor plates? You've really hit the nail in the head with this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the positive comments guys!
ReplyDelete@Jabberjabber: The tile is tiled plasticard. Because Marneus' body leans considerably forward, I needed to make an incline, so I cut the plasticard disc into two parts, and elevated the larger with greenstuff underneath. A few rocks, a smaller broken tile, and it was constructed. The paint was simply white for the tile, followed by Badab Black along the mold lines, then a diluted full wash of Devlan Mud and a tiny trace of Thraka Green for some mildewy feel.
@Juahn F'rann: The armour was based with the foundation paint Calthan Brown. The cloth and skin was based with Dheneb Stone. Skin was washed with Ogryn Flesh, Cloth and armour both washed with Devlan Mud. Armour followed up with an edge highlight of Graveyard Earth.
Glad you guys liked it! :)
Just to add my 2 pence, I must agree with the rest, an excellent job mate! I absolutely love the double Thunder Hammer look - someone should invent some rules for it!
ReplyDeleteWOW! That is amazing. I feel like the Calgar model is starting to get a little played out, but never the less your conversion is freekin' sweet.
ReplyDelete@Sovietspace: in the new SM Codex, Chapter Masters can take two thunder hammers. The rule book does have rules for it, stating that if you take a second hammer you get +1 attack. Same goes for double power fists.
ReplyDeleteGreat and very inspiring since I am in the process of painting a lot of Bleached bone myself!
ReplyDeleteVery nice paint jobs. The terminator lord is very well done and like the dreadnought shoulder pads.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the necro, but what bitz did you use to make the left-hand thunder hammer?
ReplyDeleteI am considering modelling a Chapter master with dual hammers as a weapons option.
@Travis: It's an easy conversion.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I took a Termie sergeant Power Sword arm and cut off the sword top and bottom.
Second, I took a termie TH arm and did the same (except this time I worked to preserve the weapon instead of the arm).
When held together, the only part that may look odd is where the TH cables go. I took a little greenstuff and made them link up to the cable hookup/hub/thing that sits under the hand on a powersword arm.
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI was thrown by how seamless it looked and then had a brain lapse as to where a termiantor arm with the right grip could come from.
This is especially embarassing as I have a spare power sword arm sitting on a sprue on my desk right now.
