Weekend Progress

This weekend I finished painting an Ork Trukk for my Evil Sunz Boyz. Now they got somethin' to cruise around in. You can bet they're happy.

Here's the process I used on the Trukk:

Everything metal(even if eventually painted red) is based with Tin Bitz.
Any areas that will be painted red are painted with Mechrite Red. This is followed by a heavy drybrush of Blood Red.
Next, Iyanden Darksun for anything Yellow.
Now, it's time for the Boltgun Metal. Get your nasty brush out. Drybrush heavy on the Tin-Bitz areas, and lightly on the red and yellow areas.
Give the entire thing a heavy Devlan Mud wash.
Basecoat the actual rubber tire areas with Charadon Granite, follow with a Badab Black wash.
Last step is to take whatever color your "dirt" is and drybrush that over the tires, along the front, bottom and back of the trukk. My "dirt" color was Solar Macharius Orange, as I'm basing my Orks on a Mars-ish landscape

Now these Tau models I had painted some time ago. I'm re-showing them because I experimented with re-basing them:
The snow stuff comes in a large container from Woodland Scenics. Note to self: put some white paint down on the base before adding snow next time; we want it to look like actual snow, not the mush you find at the side of the road on a semi-snowy day. =/

Last but not least, I began work painting my other two Dire Avenger Exarchs. This is the Diresword Exarch. Of course, I'm not done highlighting the blues yet ... I got distracted on his sword and basically went through to completion on just the blade before turning in for the night.

  3. I used the same snow on my Necs' and it works well, but I still had the same slush effect. There is a trick to using it where it will look fluffy but I havnt found it. Its probably something easy too. The bases still look awesome.

After I based all my models, I made a test base with some small white rocks then put the snow over it, it helped break up the ground more naturally. Just a thought.

BTW, that truck looks awesome. I think your ork skin is great and everytime you post a new pic it makes me want to pick up a quick 500pts.

  5. Love the flames on the Trukk!

What's your technique for achieving the rusted look?

  6. @Alvin: Yeah, the Boyz haven't calmed down yet. I could hear their carousing late into the night >.<
Thanks for the positive comment on the sword. I wanted to spend extra time on that to make it really stick out. If it were just a Power Weapon, I wouldn't be focusing on it so much, but it's a friggin' Diresword! It needs a paint-job that will get it the respect it deserves.

@Lach: small rocks, eh? will have to try that next time... Thanks for the tip! :) The ork skin, btw is really easy It's just a heavy Thraka Green wash over a Gretchin Green basecoat.

  7. Hey man,

I've always liked the effect like you have on the sword there; haven't been able to replicate it myself though.

Nice work :) Never occured to me to base flyers or skimmers etc., actually looks pretty good :) top stuff.
