Autarch on a Jetbike
This is my entry for Fritz's Contest.
You can vote on his site and please do, there are lots of great entries.
Despite my love for this model, I don't think I'm going to win this one. Part of this is due to that I had this boy assembled and primered right before the announcement, so too much conversion was already out of the question ... the underslung Reaper Launcher is magnetized, however ... and can be replaced with a Fusion gun.
So basically my only hope at winning this was with a paint-job (but the competition is fierce and the conversion-fiends definitely brought their game-paint. See Ron Saikowski's entry as well as Bill Lewis'. That is some seriously amazing work, guys.)
My Autarch is of the Alaitoc Craftworld, and as they're referred to as "The Starstriders," I thought I would take that as inspiration for the paint-scheme, and painted a galactic and star-ridden carapace. The Alaitoc symbol has runes of the various aspects painted down the blade, so that it looks more like Khaine's Wailing Doom (which has runes down it). I imagine that these are some of the aspects that he favors after having walked all paths towards being an Autarch.
Thanks for the compliment, though I'm going to make any bets on the outcome. There's some solid work in that contest.
ReplyDeleteI >REALLY< like the touch with the Aspect runes down the blade. Only another OCD Eldar player is likely to catch that, but it's a great touch.
Having played and painted Alaitoc, I know exactly how much of a pain the blue/yellow/white combos can be. You've done some (pardon the pun) stellar work on this guy.
I like the banner on the back.
ReplyDeleteYou were able to do what I was not... put a banner on that fits with your jetbike. The shape and the color works well (yellow is a hard color to paint).
I never though to magnetize the weapons on mine, I got so excited with magnetizing the base that I forgot to look further.
Love your work. Interesting and fluffy idea you've had, and excellent choice of craftworld too :) The reaper launcher looks really intimidating. Only thing I can think about improving the paintjob would be defining more the eyes and maybe a different colour of hair for a less subtle contrast; and maybe having used a system like bright lances do to control the bike. But in all, very, very good job.
ReplyDeleteI really like this, I think it fits as an Alaitoc Autarch on Jetbike. A nice blend of subtlety and strength. Alot of the strength is coming from having a Reaper launcher slung under the nose of the bike - very intimidating, but very useful. I really should start magnetising bits on my bigger minis...
ReplyDeleteGreat use of the Eldar history Darksol, I really like the scheme and image it portrays. Nice work!
